Today’s modern generation has allowed the emergence of new age video games which has brought a multitude of diversities in the gaming industry. As we look at it now, we have come a long way since the video gaming industry has planted its roots way back in the times of arcade video games. When we say arcade video games, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a vintage and obsolete machine that was once a big hit a long time ago.
But when we talk about arcade video games, some people think of it as an old fashioned machine that has lost its fame. This is a common misconception by most people.
Arcade video games were first launched into popularity in the beginning of the 1970s. Back then, the game stations were manufactured using solid-state electronics and specially-made integrated circuits. From there the arcade video games have continually developed but have retained the similar format. This applies to the 2nd generation arcade video games, additional specifications were done and several improvements have been implemented but they stayed pretty much the same as their predecessors.
Introduced in the early 1970’s, Arcade video games instantly gained popularity from all sectors of the society. And people just can’t get enough of their newly found source of entertainment. Back then, it was only playable on machines that are comprised of custom-made integrated circuits and solid state electronics. Even though new games are made it still used the same format. There have been improvements and innovations but they retained the look and the feel of its classic predecessors. And despite the emergence of the newer consoles, arcade video games stay adamant at the top. The reason for this is because arcade video games are played in a different gaming environment than the newer consoles.
While at home, you can play as long as you’d like and not worry about the expense of the game you are playing, arcade video games have always been designed to be played in large spaces with several people free to peek over your shoulder at the progress you are making. Tokens or coins must be inserted into the arcade machines in order to play a different level. This is perhaps the biggest and most notable difference between arcade video games and the modern-day video game consoles like the Playstation, XBOX, Wii and even personal computers.
As mentioned earlier, Arcade video games never did lose popularity, despite the growing number of home-based video game consoles because many gamers simply enjoy the retrospective, nostalgic vibe that they derive when playing arcade formatted video games. Others simply cannot afford to make a bulk or lump sum purchase to own a personalized video game console, and because of this, the arcade-type video games are bound to be around for a very long time yet. This is most likely the reason that the video game industry continues to produce and program up and coming arcade video games for the arcade industry, even with the influx of more advanced technology video games.
