Why To Choose Iowa Deer Hunting Outfitters

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

There are many different states and locations to choose from when searching for a guided deer hunt provider.  If you are looking for a large Whtietail Buck, Iowa should definitely be one of the top states you consider for your guided hunt.

First off, there are a ton of great providers at fairly reasonable prices.  Most of the providers offer many different kinds of hunts as well to keep you occupied if you get a huge Buck the very first day!  Many times you can book a deer/pheasant or deer/turkey hunt during the same trip.  In addition, most of the providers are “mom and pop” operations that make you feel right at home.  Often times you are staying in a guest house or lodge that is located right next to the outfitters permanent residence.  In addition, although it may sound goofy, people in the Midwest are down to earth, nice people.  Each outfitter wants to make sure you return the next year so they will do everything in their power to make sure you are having a great time on your Iowa guided hunt.

The most difficult part about an Iowa Deer Hunt is getting approved for the license; many times it can take two or three years to get approved for an out of state Iowa deer license.  In my opinion, the licensing process is what make a guided deer hunting in Iowa so great.  There are definitely some barriers to entry but I believe the licensing process “weeds out” hunters that are not serious about getting a big Buck.  At the end of the day, I think it is worth a possible one year wait if you end up with a 12 point Buck and an experience of a lifetime!

Deer Grunting Sounds – The Early Season Bow Hunt

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

Deer Grunting Sounds

It was a Sunday evening, two weeks into bow season, and it was time for my husband and me to get into our stands. Bob went to one end of our land and I went to the other. While sitting in my stand, playing on my iphone, I heard deer moving in the woods. It was time to listen and be ready to shoot. My crossbow was sitting next to me so I got the binoculars out to try to see where they were. The bucks started grunting, what a neat sound. The grunts were getting closer and then there was a sound I had never heard before, kind of like a real deep grunt or roar. Then in the field across from me appeared some doe and two nice size bucks, an 8 point and a 10 point. They appeared to be playing when all of the sudden the two bucks started sizing each other up. They weren’t really fighting, just pushing each other around. This went on for about 45 minutes then they just stopped and went on to eating and walked away. They stayed 85 yards away from me so all I could do is watch.

When Bob came out of his stand he said he watched the big buck, a 15 point, and a smaller buck pushing each other around on one side of the field and on the other side of the field were two eight points doing the same thing. He was telling me about the noises they were making and said he had never heard some of these sounds before. The one noise was like a real deep grunt or roar and when the big buck made that noise he chased the smaller buck away from a doe. Then he said he finally got to hear the wheeze. But just like me, they never got close enough for a shot. Deer Grunting Sounds

Since bow hunting is being in the right place at the right time and scouting your spots, Monday night I decided to go to his stand because he saw the big buck, but all I saw was some does about 100 yards away. I heard the bucks grunting but never got to see them. Then right before dark the coyotes started to howl so I figured the deer were going to leave. On my way out of the woods I saw a deer near my stand but I couldn’t tell if it was a buck or a doe. When I got home from teaching the next day I went back to get the pictures off my camera and low and behold standing right next to my stand was the big boy. It was about 7:15 p.m., well before dark, and there were 5 pictures of him.

I decided I was going to bow hunt out of my stand for a while. Tuesday I had 4 small bucks come by my stand but I didn’t want to take a shot. Wednesday night I heard something coming from behind my stand. It was getting close to dark so I really couldn’t see well in the woods due to the leaves but the fields still had plenty of light. The first deer comes out and walks toward the feeder, it was an 8 point with a high rack but not very wide. It eats a little bit and then looks back in the woods and starts to walk off. Then here he came, the big buck, 15 points. Deer Grunting Sounds

When I first saw him my heart started beating quickly. I said to myself, “Is that really him? Am I going to get a shot? Now calm down Christy”. As watched him walk around and check out the territory. By the time he walked towards me it was getting dark. I put the scope of my crossbow on him, yep it was the big boy, but how far was he away from me. I looked back up at him, tried to figure out the yardage, I thought you don’t want to wound this one. He walked to his left and stood broad side to me, again just couldn’t figure out how far away. I decided it was too late to shoot and watched him walk away.

My next bow hunt was Thursday night I figured out he was 30 yards away and I had the perfect shot. Needless to say I have not seen that big buck since. Even though I could kick myself in the butt for not shooting I think I did the right thing. The life of a bow hunter is hard at times but unlike a gun you must make sure they are in range before you release or pull the trigger on your bow. However, it is a great feeling being in the woods and seeing the deer and other wildlife just doing their thing. I would rather bow hunt then gun hunt any day. Deer Grunting Sounds

Benefits Of Using Deer Hunting Blinds

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

When you are going to be hunting you know that your going to want to make sure that you have all the items that you need. However, you will want to know the benefits of using deer hunting blinds for your hunting experiences. By knowing the benefits of these you are going to be able to get more deer than what you ever thought possible.

One benefit that your going to find is they will allow you to stay hidden. When you are going hunting you know that you want to stay out of site for your prey. By doing that you will not have to worry about the animal being spooked by you.

Another benefit is that these are normally very portable and can be set up where you want to be at. When you are hunting you know that the deer are going to be changing their pattern just because it is hunting season. So unlike your deer stand in the tree you can move these to the area that you are thinking that the deer might be moving through without having to build a new stand.

Something else that you can enjoy is that you will be able to be protected from some of the weather. These are going to help keep you protected from the weather to a point. You might still be cold because they generally do not have any heat offered in them, but you will be out of the wind more than what you might be if you are sitting on the side of a tree.

Hunting is a great past time for many people in the world. However, the problem is they do not know about all the benefits of using deer hunting blinds. Once they know all of those benefits though they are going to want to make sure that they have one of these the next time that they go on a hunting trip.
