If you are planning to have an outdoor adventure, you need to be prepared with your outdoor camping gear. It is not necessary to bring everything from your kitchen and bedroom to have a comfortable condition. All you need to have is the survival gear.

Depending on your adventure, you can have hiking gear and camping and hunting gear. For all outdoor adventures, you will need the essentials including footwear, clothing, backpacks, camping tents, campground cooking tools and accessories.

Gemstone Hunting RV Camping Ideas in California

There are so many possibilities for mining gem-rich ore in California, it deserves a section all to itself. A popular stop for gem lovers hoping to find green or pink California tourmaline is the world famous Himalaya Mine near Santa Ysabel in San Diego County. Prospectors can purchase buckets of gem ore to screen onsite with equipment furnished by the Mine. Lake Henshaw Resort, adjacent to the Mine, is a beautiful site for RV camping, lake fishing and plenty of hiking in the foothills of the Palomar Mountains.

Another real gem for RV camping prospectors is found right in the same county! Oceanview Mine in Pala, California charges a set fee that allows gem hunters to screen fresh, unprospected mine tailings all day long. Recent visitor finds include aquamarine and many colors of tourmaline.

About two hours southwest of Fresno, screen for benitoite, California’s state gem. The California State Gem Mine near Coalinga is open most weekends to prospectors. Dry camp your RV at nearby Los Gatos Creek County Park and spend the day sifting mine tailings near where a fabulous 34 carat rough benitoite was recently found!

More Gem Hunting RV Camping Ideas – Nevada

Nevada has also been the site of fabulous gemstone finds, and the Garnet Hill Recreation Area near Ely is very popular with prospectors. Search two square miles of public land for likely garnet-containing specimens, and be sure to bring your rock hammer for breaking them! Camp just fifteen miles away at Cave Lake State Park, or really relish this remote region with a visit to Great Basin National Park, sixty miles east at the Utah/Nevada border. Both parks offer RV camping facilities.

In the remote desert of northwest Nevada near Denio, the Virgin Valley offers gem prospectors the opportunity to mine for precious black opal at three fee mining sites.  Rainbow ridge Opal Mine, has yielded gorgeous specimens. The Royal peacock Opal Mine, has RV camping available onsite, and allows both “tailings digging” or “bank digging,” depending on how much you plan to spend. You can also search mine tailings for black opals or “fire opals,” at the Bonanza Opal Mine in the Valley. A large, free campsite without hookups can be found at Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge near the Bonanza Mine.

Gem Hunting for RV Campers – North Carolina and Georgia

A perennial family favorite in the Eastern US is Gem Mountain in Spruce Mountain, North Carolina. Located along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway in the area known as “Little Switzerland,” this family destination offers mine tours and the chance to screen for Crabtree Emeralds and Brushy Creek Aquamarines. Park your RV nearby at the Bear Den in Mount Pisgah National Forest.

For a truly Southern gem prospecting adventure, join the owner of the Hogg Mine  near LaGrange, Georgia most Saturday mornings for a day of surface fee mining for aquamarine beryls, tourmaline crystals and literally boulders full of rose quartz!

Gem Hunting RV Adventures – Connecticut

For a fantastic northeastern gem hunting experience, plan some motorhome camping time in Connecticut. There are numerous old and currently operating mine sites that allow prospecting.

If you choose Connecticut for your next RV camping and prospecting trip, definitely do some research on the Roxbury Falls area, where some of the world’s best almandine garnets have been mined. Start at Green’s Farm Garnet Mine near Roxbury. This former mine site still yields deep red garnets.

Another easy place to prospect in Connecticut is Old Mine Park in Trumbull. The Park Rangers can guide you to a construction site where topaz, beryl and an interesting form of emerald are being found.

These are only a few of the gem fee mining sites that can spark an entire RV camping vacation. Whether you find yourself hunting Herkimer Diamonds in New York, or digging for sapphires in Montana, it’s a great way to spend time out in the wild with your family. Many decades ago, in some communities it was customary to give utensils like hunting knives to boys who were becoming young men. It was a symbol of their independence and responsibility. While it is not necessarily something that is so common these days, many people still respect the sentiment.

Of course today, knives like these are very strong, with a steel blade fixed into a durable handle. Traditionally, as a hunting tool, they were designed for quick kills, requiring that you thrust the blade quickly into your prey. This was not only to kill it quickly, but to protect you from danger too. Although it is brutal and wild, it was the reality at the time, and still is to a certain extent.

However, there are other styles of knife that you might appreciate just the same. Pocket knives, for instance are far more practical, offering a few different blades for a variety of purposes that do not involve the killing of animals. You can use pocket knives for whittling, carving, shaping, and many other less dangerous activities.

Pocket knives can also be very detailed too. Some models are so well-designed that they offer a superb selection of tools that you might need while trail-blazing. From a paring knife to a scaling blade and even tweezers, there are some manufactures who have truly thought of everything!

Hunting and pocket knives are both also quite safe. They are built in a way that keeps your safety in the forefront. If it features folding blades, then they lock both in open and closed positions, which means there is far less chance of an accident. Fixed blades are durable and attached firmly to the handle, but come with a snug sheath that will prevent it from cutting you on accident too.

As far as hunting camping is concerned, you should remember that most single blades cannot do everything. Even most pocket knives are not designed to do all things. You will probably need a couple of blades for your next hunting, fishing, or camping trip. Keep that in mind.

If the tactical knife or pocket knife is perpetually dull or flimsy it is very unlikely that you will enjoy your time hunting and may in fact result in a lack-luster hunting season. That is why it is important to make sure to always have the right blade on you at all times, and to choose the right blade. Many people do not know that there is more than one blade type, when really there are three main blades that a person can choose from, depending on their individual needs.

Drop Point Blade Hunting Knives

The drop point blade is the most popular type of tactical knife blade on the market today. GeoRock’n and Myself (Hotlanta) decided to spend a couple days camping during his school break. We wanted to go somewhere new and picked Hunting Island State Park in SC And we’re glad we did.
